Has your heart ever stopped..ā¤ļøāš©¹
A clip like this deserves a little backstory.
May, 2016 no one had dove a building with a drone yet. I wanted to be the first to properly do a sky scrapper building dive.
Let me set the scene. @skitzofpv and @stingersswarm and myself setup in an nearby parking lot, a tranquil holiday weekend Sunday sunset, Rocking my prototype 900mHz ālong rangeā crossfire tx at 2W (because power) I take off with my 5ā Alien with 3 bladed glass nylon HQ 5x4x3 props (if you touch anything they explode MADE OF LITERAL GLASS) Luckily there was a strategy of flying over the large courtyard below the dive to mitigate a large risk of any issues during the dive.. click record on my un warranteeād GoPro hero 4 silverā¦. And start heading for the tallest building in Atlanta. Everything is going smoothly, I am holding the controller up and away from my genitalia because the high power output is causing my Taranis speaker to hum. Friends are watching from a screen tuned into my channel.
Just as I go to set up for the huck into the dive I lose all control. FAILSAFE!
Helpless as the drone is now careening towards the building with props made of literal glass. I hold the radio above my head and start arming and disarming trying to regain control. The aircraft hits the building with a smack, belly flopping (luckily) I frantically re arm and dissarm waiting as patiently as I can for any sign of link. After a few heart stopping seconds on the 3rd rearm, I gain control. Some how no props were broken and I continue the dive and fly the aircraft home to find zero damage other than a few years of life shaved off from the stress of the ordeal.
Needless to say this was a situation that I learned a lot from and I am grateful paned out the way it did.
What was wrong with the radio link ā¦. Oh my Tx antenna was completely severed at the SMA and free spinning.. 2W. No antenna. š«Ø
