The cable car from mt Cermis to the Italian village of Cavalese was the scene of one of the world's most deadly cable car accidents in 1998. US Marine Pilots accused of joy-riding flew their EA-6B Prowler into the cable which held up the Gondola, causing it to drop more than 250 feet to the ground.
