Incredibly, there is a prophetic and very peculiar connection between the passage of the Hale-Bopp comet and this fire, both of which occurred in the year 1997. The comet was traveling through the constellation Sagittarious. Sagittarious is the bow-wielding archer who is seen as the coming conqueror. Could the discovery of Hale-Bopp within this particular constellation allude to the coming of Antichrist (Revelation 6:2) and the end of the age? Is it possible that this constellation alludes to the Beast in Revelation 13, who is also described as an Archer in Revelation 6?
Note that Sagittarius has two natures – one beast, one man. By studying the course that Hale-Bopp has taken through the heavens, this Antichrist theme materializes in greater detail. After Hale-Bopp left Sagittarius, it made it’s way to the constellation Perseus. Specifically it crossed the section of Perseus known as the “severed head of Gorgon,” Medusa. In Hebrew this is known as “Rosh Satan”, the “head of Satan.” The principal star in this part of the constellation is the variable star Al Gol, which means “the evil spirit.” By comparing the paths of Hale-Bopp and 1996’s comet Hyakutake, one will discover that the paths of the two comets intersected near Al Gol – in the “head of Satan.” Hyakutake was at this point on April 11, 1996. Hale-Bopp was at this point on April 11, 1997! Their intersecting paths form a cross or X in the forehead of the “head of Satan.” Is this a possible allusion to the mark of the Beast?
Perseus is a decan, or division, of the constellation Aries. In Hebrew, Aries is called Taleh, which means “the lamb.” This lamb is pictured as having two horns. It would seem that not only could this “lamb” allude to the “Lamb of God” , but could also allude to the “Lamb with two Horns”, mentioned in Revelation 13:11). Directly below Aries is the constellation Cetus, the sea monster. In the classic Christian book, “The witness of the Stars”, E.W. Bullinger notes that Cetus is the natural enemy of fish and likens Cetus to Leviathan, the sea beast. Now note what bible prophecies indicate will happen to Leviathan:
“In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.” (Isaiah 27:1)
Obviously, Leviathan is a name given to the beast who rises from the sea in Revelation 13:1. All of these factors conclude that this area of the heavens – Cetus, Aries and Perseus – represents the lawless one we know as Antichrist.
On the very day that Hale-Bopp hit the variable star "Al Gol" on the same anniversary date that the previous comet did exactly one year before forming an "X" in the forehead of Satan, the very cathedral that houses the Shroud of Turin caught fire.
One could get the impression that there is something about this burial cloth that Satan does not like. The Hale-Bopp comet seemed to convey the message that scripture already tells us. That is, that Leviathan will be punished and cast into Hell one day after the Tribulation period of the end times has ended. It seems as though Satan lashed out at this cloth. Why? Because he knows what it really is and whose burial cloth it is. He knows whose image it is imprinted on that cloth. I would take it one step further and say that this cloth is arguably God's calling card to the world to have faith in Christ, the Son of God, to the saving of the soul - much like Thomas did after "seeing the proof" and thrusting his fingers into the side of Christ after his crucifixion to see the spear wound. The saving of the human soul is the last thing that Satan wants for any human being.
Not only would this amazing spectacle be one more shot across the bow of any skeptic of the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, but it is also a clear demonstration that there is a war raging in the heavens between good and evil and it is very real. It also points to the fact that the providential hand of God is involved in the signs of the heavens regarding comets and the like. I have argued based on the evidence alone that Hale-Bopp comet was a God-sent sign. This incident is just one more occurrence that should cause all to sit up and take note of what God is telling us here ... especially since at the time of this writing, there is another comet on it's way through our solar system bearing another peculiar message in the heavens.
