When trying to improve the design of any system, it helps to talk to the people you aim to serve, and ask them what they want and need. But it’s rare that education systems directly ask students such questions.
One Stone takes a different approach. The Idaho-based school does not utilize grades, teachers, or tests in the traditional sense. Rather, the school is run by students, who are given the power to choose what and how they want to learn.
As One Stone co-founder Teresa Poppin explains, it’s an empathy-based philosophy that’s rooted in human-centered design.
