After our last video about ants carrying off fragments of diamonds, a lot of you wrote in to say that precious stones like garnets have already been picked up during ordinary hikes out in Arizona, lying right there on the open ground, which leaves one fascinating question, how do gems that sit meters deep in the soil ever end up scattered across the surface of a termite mound?
Well, no human dug them up, the insects did, because as a termite colony tunnels down searching for moisture, it runs into whatever is buried below and carries that material up to build its mound, so a hard little gem gets dropped on top right alongside the ordinary grit, and the termite has no clue it just moved a fortune, since to it that stone is not treasure, it is only building material.
So in this video I am going to show you the five precious gems that can turn up on and around a termite mound, why termites are so good at bringing them up, the one thing you must check before you trust any mound, and the simple signs that tell each gem apart, and as a bonus this same trick even points toward gold, and the very last gem on the list is the easiest of them all to find, so stick with me to the end, because the ground beneath your feet is about to look completely different.
