Sooo… hey. I love yall. Thank you so much to every single person that commented on IG, TT, and YT. I’ve been reading all of them and really learning and reflecting on video creation tactics.
OBLIGATORY DECLARATIONS:
-this is not my dating preference. I would and have dated straight culture bisexuals
-imo “straight culture bis” are not more “straight” than queer culture bis.
-this is not about validating or invalidating your sexuality. Bisexuals are part of the queer community period.
I know I said I wouldn’t be elaborating on what a straight culture lesbian means to me, but I’ve changed my mind and will make that video soon.
I also wanted to share this comment from Emmashooshan: The example she is using here is that many bisexual women have only been exposed to "straight culture," which understandably makes them less intimately compatible with lesbians who have been enmeshed in queer culture long-term simply because regardless of intersecting orientation they lack some valuable shared life experiences/understandings. While this is a true valid common occurrence, it is also important to create inclusive opportunities for anyone stuck assimilated within a majority group to create cultural relationships with those of shared identity!
What Stevie is clarifying here is that while some lesbians refusing to date or engage with bisexual woman are indeed biphobic, many are instead just resistant to creating unsustainable relationships with people who are not yet acclimated or aware enough of queer cultural experiences/histories/mutual understandings. Meaning that by empathetically acknowledging this dynamic instead of dismissing it as basic bigotry, we can make strides as a community to deconstruct the barriers that limit our kin from becoming included and creating mutual understanding.
