Spyro is one of those things that try as I might, I can never quit. It was my favorite childhood series. I've always had a fascination with dragons, and so when my parents bought us a PlayStation and a stack of games back in the day, the first game that stuck out to me was spyro the Dragon. I was six God damn years old. If you want my opinions on the original trilogy, you can watch this video. But, as with most platformer franchises, late 90s success led to early 2000s stagnation. As the industry moved further and further away from what made the '90s platformer boom viable, many of these franchises were left to twist in the Wind. Spyro is no different, and after half a decade of mediocrity, diminishing returns and attempting and failing to recapture the lightning, the final straw was shadow legacy, a weird isometric… RPG thing on the DS that sold like absolute ass. Whether that was the intended final installment in the original series or not, it probably should have been. So the series got the boot, the reboot. They decided to make this light, upbeat, platformer franchise into a dark, gritty action platformer franchise to make this series more in line with the rest of the industry at the time. This reboot was called "The Legend Of Spyro"
