TGIF! –“ Thank Goodness I Failed!” is a series that profiles young entrepreneurs sharing their early failures as they attempt to make their mark in the entrepreneurial world. There is a lesson learned with each setback, but more importantly, a strength that one develops for the next challenge.
With her twinkling eyes and beaming smile, it might be hard to imagine Debra sinking into negativity and deciding to quit her social enterprise Society Staples. But, like most of us, Debra had to deal with self-doubts and burnout. With the support of her friends and mentor, Debra overcame those doubts and now continues to work towards a more inclusive Singapore with Society Staples.
Debra Lam was selected by U.S. Embassy Singapore to participate in the YSEALI Academic Fellows program in 2017. She spent six weeks at the University of Connecticut under the Social Entrepreneurship and Economic Development track.
