My first year+ with Team Fortress 2 was spent almost exclusively on trade servers. These servers typically run some variant of trade_plaza or trade_minecraft, maps with no objective or end goal whatsoever, and were home to lots of players who simply got picks on each other over and over until they got hundreds of points and gradually left the server. I was one of these players when I started getting into TF2, not knowing the value of items or doing any trading, despite the original intentions of the servers. Now that it's 2018 and lots of different trading sites have appeared in order to make the whole process a lot easier, one question remains: are trade servers really necessary anymore?
