Writer-artist Box Brown has made four comics I love, all nonfiction, featuring the world's most famous video game, professional wrestling, marijuana, and a host of larger-than-life characters including Andy Kaufman and Andre the Giant. In this video I talk about the depth and complexity of the topics and ideas he tackles, and the deceptive simplicity he seems to employ in doing so. Brown's particular brand of empathetic archaeology is perfectly suited to the comics medium, allowing him to both lightly skim and sound out depths within the same page, often the same panel.
