A field experiment records air pressure and temperature at several elevations on Mount Charleston to test competing explanations for atmospheric pressure change. The pressure falls by roughly the expected amount with altitude while temperature remains nearly constant, showing that a simple pressure-temperature proportionality cannot explain the observed gradient.
