There's a much wider variety of methods for lifting pots off the wheel than you might think. Some appear simple, yet require rather a lot of practice to master, whereas others are fundamentally easy, yet they come with additional complications. In this week's video, I want to discuss and demonstrate a variety of techniques, including simply using your hands, throwing batts, tile systems, splashes of water and the use of a heat-gun.
Ultimately, there's no single 'best' way, but I believe pushing yourself to learn certain techniques broadens your overall skillset and investing in yourself and what you're capable of is never a bad thing. Can I underline the never? The process of moving a thrown vessel from wheel to ware board is such a fundamental step that relying on techniques that introduce more chaos or time can act like stabilisers in the long run if continued when pivoting into production throwing and I hope what's discussed in this video explains precisely why I think that.
