I've managed to create an almost functional free roam mode, with basically disabled timer and checkpoint flares, thus letting you drive anywhere in the levels without any restrictions. There are still some problems that I need to work out a solution for, namely the scripted traffic and pedestrian routes which currently don't work properly. There are also some route guides that I wasn't able to disable completely, too.
As an added bonus though, I was able to enable the speedometer that is normally only used in the two player split screen mode!
