In this episode of EV Confessions, I’m sitting down with Richard, famously known as Teslaflix, to talk about his insane Model Y Performance (lovingly named "Dexter 2.0"). Richard has one of the most uniquely modified Tesla I’ve ever seen, featuring a custom hexagon-patterned wrap that always turns heads at the shows.
Richard’s journey into the world of electric vehicles is wild. Coming from a background of high-speed motorcycles like the Yamaha R1 and Ducati Panigale 1299, and even a 93 Corvette, he thought he was going to be a gas-head forever. But after a stint in a "murdered out" Prius that eventually hit its limit, he jumped into a Tesla and never looked back. We talk about how he conquered his range anxiety right away with a massive 9,800-mile road trip across the US just a week after taking delivery, stopping at 82 different Superchargers!
We dive deep into the reality of owning a heavily modified EV. Richard is honest about his range—thanks to those massive 22-inch wheels and extra mods, his "real world" range is a fraction of the factory estimate, but he doesn't mind one bit. We also discuss his "wingman" theory for naming his cars, his hilariously effective external PA system for dealing with traffic, and why he’s currently torn between an S Plaid for the speed or a Model X for those iconic Falcon Wing doors.
