Tesla changes their pricing quite a bit and also change what they offer without any notice. Today Tesla has removed the standard range Model Y from their website and is no longer available to order, even though Tesla just released it 6 weeks ago. Tesla also reduced the pricing for other vehicle models. One of the very interesting things about this is just a few days ago Tesla reduced the price for a few of their models, including the model Y and Model 3. Tesla has reduced the long range dual motor Model Y price by $1,000. Now it starts under $49,000. The long range dual motor all wheel drive Model 3 has also been reduced by $1,000 while the standard range Model Y is no longer available. Tesla may expect that the tax credit is coming soon and they don't want to suffer from the Osborne effect which basically means customers are waiting out to get something better or waiting for that tax credit, so customers aren't ordering as many Tesla vehicles. In order to combat this Tesla is trying to incentivize people to go ahead and order right now instead of waiting for the potential tax credit. Another possible reason is that they want to simplify the production line of the Model Y. Another possible reason is if they are getting rid of the standard range model Y, but they're keeping a single motor version, maybe they're bringing back the original plan for the Long range rear wheel drive model Y. Elon Musk said that they weren't going to do a standard range wide just because it would have under 250 miles of range, which was unacceptable. Finally, if we want to be very optimistic, could this have something to do with the upcoming Tesla Model 2 which is Tesla's newest upcoming compact hatchback? It's estimated to be ahead of schedule, and hopefully getting in production later this year and possibly deliveries next year.
