Flew a drone over @tesla Fremont.
From the air it looks inevitable. It isnβt.
GM opened this plant in 1963, closed it in 1982 as one of the worst factories in America, then reopened it in 1984 with Toyota as NUMMI. Same workers. Better system. 8 million cars.
Last one: a red Corolla, April 1, 2010.
Tesla almost passed.
Bought 210 acres in 2010 for $42 million.
Elon Musk said the place looked apocalyptic β they even took the light bulbs. First Model S in 2012.
Then X, 3, Y. Only Tesla plant to build all four S3XY cars. It now out-builds its NUMMI peak.
The logo on those roofs is not just a T. Tesla is named for the man who patented the AC induction motor in 1888.
Elon confirmed it in 2017: the T is a cross-section of that motor. Stem = rotor pole. Cap = stator. The gap is where electricity becomes torque.
A factory built for engines. A badge that is a motor. Same land. Third life.
Shot on the Antigravity A1.
