Epiphanius of Salamis, 330 CE:
"Christ was born eight days before the Kalends of January, thirteen days after the winter solstice and the addition of light and day.' This day is celebrated by the Greeks, I mean the idolaters, on the eighth before the Kalends of January, which the Romans call Saturnalia, the Egyptians call Cronia, and the Alexandrians call Kikellia.. which is called Epiphany, from the beginning of the increase of light for a span of thirteen days; for this also had to become a type of our Lord Jesus Christ and his twelve disciples, fulfilling the number of the thirteen days of light's increase. First, in Alexandria in the so-called Koreum; there is a great temple, that is, the precinct of Kore. For staying awake the entire night with certain songs and flutes singing to the idol and spending the whole night, after the crowing of the roosters, they descend with torches into a certain underground shrine and bring out a certain wooden statue seated on a litter, naked, having a golden seal of a cross on the forehead and two other such seals on each hand and another two on the two knees, together the five seals made of gold, and they carry this statue around the middle temple seven times with flutes and drums and hymns and after celebrating they again bring it down into the underground place. Being asked what this mystery is, they reply and say that at this hour today the Kore (that is, the virgin) gave birth to Aion. This also happens in Petra, the city (metropolis of Arabia, Edom written in the scriptures) in the idol temple there, and they praise the virgin in Arabic dialect, calling her in Arabic Kabu, that is, Kore or the virgin, and the one born from her Dusares, that is, the only begotten of the lord. This also takes place in Elousa, the city, on that night, as there in Petra and in Alexandria."
Accounts of the birth of Dionysus are generally agreed upon by the ancient writers; but rival claims are raised by not a few Greek cities to having been the place of his birth. The peoples of Elis and Naxos. The Teans advance as proof that the god was born among them the fact that, even to this day, at fixed times in their city a fountain of wine, of unusually sweet fragrance, flows of its own accord from the earth; and as for the peoples of the other cities, they in some cases point out a plot of land which is sacred to Dionysus, in other cases shrines and sacred precincts which have been consecrated to him from ancient times. Diodorus Siculus, Bibliotheca (50BCE) Book III.66
Eudoxus says that persons who drink the water of Lake Clitorius take a distaste for wine, and Theopompus asserts that the waters of the springs already named are productive of inebriety. According to Mucianus, there is a fountain at Andros, consecrated to Father Liber (Dionysus), from which wine flows during the seven days appointed for the yearly festival of that god, the taste of which becomes like that of water the moment it is taken out of sight of the temple.

"It is accredited by the Mucianus who was three times consul that the water flowing from a spring in the temple of Father Liber (Dionysus title in Latin) on the island of Andros always has the flavour of wine on Nones of Janus (January 5th-7th): the day is called God’s Gift Day (Theodosia).” (Pliny the Elder, Natural History Book II.231).
