To the amount of soil: You should give the scorpions the possibility to burrow holes. The substrate should be between 10 and 30 cm high. As my Pandinus doesn't burrow much I didn't take that much substrate. But if it will try to burrow more I will rearrange the terrarium and put more substrate in.
This terrarium setup is suited for scorpions, that live in similar habitats as Pandinus imperator, the Emperor Scorpion.That means: Scorpions that live in rainforests or moist savannas.
The terrarium size is 60cm x 30cm x 40cm.
Setup:
The substrate consists of normal potting soil. In the back of the terrarium the soil has a height of 10 cm, so the scorpion can burrow holes in which it can live and hide.
The plant Spathiphyllum is used as a biological indicator for the humidity, at the latest when the plant goes limp it's about time to water the terrarium.
The stones on the right-hand side are heated by the light and could be used as source of heat, but as P. imperator probably will not use these stones, they are just decoration.
The halved corc tube has been the main hideout of my scorpion for a few years now, there should be a place where the scorpion can hide without burrowing.
There should be a shallow drinking bowl in the terrarium, I often see my scorpion go to his bowl and drink!
Finally I put some beech leaves in the top left corner. You do not have to do that. There are small invertebrates like woodlice and earth worms living in my terrariums, to keep the tank clean naturally. The leaves serve as their food.
In a terrarium of this size you can keep a pair of Pandinus imperator without any problems.

Dieser Terrarienaufbau eignet sich für Skorpione, die in ähnlichen Habitaten wie Pandinus imperator, der Kaiserskorpion, vorkommen. Das heißt: Skorpione, die in Regenwäldern oder auch Feuchtsavannen leben.
Die Maße des Terrariums betragen 60cm x 30cm x 40cm (LBH), wobei die Höhe bei Skorpionen jedoch meist nicht sehr wichtig ist.
Aufbau:
Der Bodengrund besteht aus lockerer Blumenerde. Sie hat an der Rückwand eine Höhe von 10 cm, so dass der Skorpion genug Platz hat um Höhlen zu graben. Weniger als 10 cm sollte man nicht nehmen, da P. imperator gerne Wohnhöhlen gräbt.
Die Pflanze Spathiphyllum nutze ich als Zeiger für die Feuchtigkeit im Terrarium, spätestens wenn sie ihre Blätter leicht hängen lässt, wird es Zeit zu gießen.
Die Steinplatten an der rechten Seite erhitzen sich im Licht und könnten so als Wärmequelle aufgesucht werden, P. imperator wird das vermutlich nicht tun, also sind sie eher Dekoration.
Die halbierte Korkröhre ist schon seit Jahren die Haupthöhle dieses Skorpions, Versteckmöglichkeiten sollte es genug geben.
Es sollte auch eine flache Trinkschale vorhanden sein, ich sehe meinen Skorpion oft zur Schale gehen um zu trinken!
Zum Schluss habe ich noch einige Buchenblätter in der linken Ecke verteilt. Diese sind nicht unbedingt nötig, in meinen Terrarien leben jedoch immer einige Asseln und Würmer, die das Terrarium auf natürliche Weise sauber halten. Die Blätter dienen den ihnen als Nahrung.
In einem Terrarium dieser Größe kann man problemlos ein Paar von Pandinus imperator halten.
