Recording this for posterity's sake, because apparently in Expert Mode on version 1.3.0.8, Duke Fishron doesn't spawn Detonating Bubbles. This makes the fight easier, and yet I STILL had trouble busting the large ham's arse.
Done with Melee gear (it totally counts cause it goes back to the character's hand!), I used Beetle Shell armour (Damage Reduction), with a Demonic Possessed Hatchet and Ruthless Paladin's Hammer, with the following accessories:
- Violent Frozen Wings
- Violent Ankh Shield
- Violent Charm of Myths
- Menacing Frostspark Boots
- Menacing Worm Scarf
- Violent Mechanical Glove
It's less fantastic than if I'd fought him on an earlier version (this'll likely get fixed with the upcoming 1.3.1 update) but I figured it's worth a watch.
(I'd also used the Flipper and Water Walking potions on the assumption that I'd be entering the ocean, but I guess that was risking a buff reset more'n anything :V)
