Dr. Elizabeth Laposata, a Brown University professor who was a chief medical examiner in Rhode Island for 12 years, testified for the defense during Lindsay Clancy's murder trial on Tuesday.

She said she believes the exercise bands used to kill Clancy's three children were wrapped around them several times, leading to something of a demonstration as the prosecutors brought the exercise bands back out of evidence during a tense cross-examination.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty in the deaths of the children — Callan, Dawson and Cora — who were found in the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023. Prosecutors say she planned the killings, while her defense argues she was suffering from bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis at the time and should not be held criminally responsible.
