Despite the 1981 classic arcade game, Tempest being ported to many different consoles along with direct sequels over the years (including some by Jeff Minter) it never made it to the 3DO! Luckily for us, we live in a time of awesome homebrew. Tempest for the 3DO is fully featured and playable on real hardware (including ODE’s). It’s also playable in the emulators Phoenix and Opera.

Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story is a brand-new release from Digital Eclipse which is not only a playable compilation of his works (including over 40 games) but also an interactive documentary about Minter’s life and development process. Digital Eclipse has done an outstanding job sourcing high-quality scans of his development notes and photos from throughout his life, but also has filmed fantastic interviews with other developers, industry personalities and, of course, the man himself. Games you play include Gridrunner, Hellgate, Hover Bovver, Revenge of the Mutant Camels, Sheep in Space, Colourspace, Revenge of the Mutant Camels and Tempest 2000 over a range of console and computers such as Commodores VIC-20/C64, the Sinclair Spectrum, the Atari ST, the Atari Jaguar and for the first time, the Konix Multi-System. This is the second release in their Gold Master Series, having already released The Making of Karateka in 2023. This a game review
