"I came up with the idea behind Kara Pure when I was 19 studying architecture in university. While preparing to write a standard research paper on emerging technology, our professor had us watch 3 TED talks prior to starting our research to give us some inspiration. I don't recall the other TED talks, but one of them was by an architect named Michael Pawlyn. His talk was about a study called biomimicry. Biomimicry is the study of nature and replicating its function, such as a how a solar panel replicates the function of a leaf.
During Mr. Pawlyn's talk, he spoke about this little beetle that lived in the driest desert in the world. To survive, this little beetle had developed a phenomenon where it could quite literally harvest water vapor from the air on its shell, do a handstand and drink the water right off of its own back! I was immediately convinced that this could be the most practical solution to localized drinking water if only we could feasibly replicate the function of the beetle's shell. So, instead of writing a paper on emerging technology, I created a technology based on the structure of the beetle's shell that could capture water from the air, which was the start of Kara Pure.
As for the name, the beetle I spoke about is called the Namib beetle, but its scientific name is Stenocara Gracilipes. In honor of the beetle that inspired it all, I named the company and product Kara." - Cody Soodeen, the creator of Kara Pure and the founder of Kara Water.
