Telescope Peak has one of the greatest rises above local terrain of any mountain in the United States. It is also the tallest point in Death Valley National Park and the Panamint Range. The summit rises 11, 331 feet (3,454 m) above Badwater Basin, which is −282 feet (−86 m) below sea level. This is even somewhat comparable to the 13,000 foot rise of Mount Everest above the Tibetan Plateau. The panoramic view from the summit is nothing less than spectacular! You can see well over 100 miles in just about every direction. Ancient bristlecone pine dot the ridgeline on the way to the summit and add to the ambience of this very special place.
