Research expertise: public finance and development economics
Tejaswi Velayudhan, economics assistant professor, studies public finance issues in developing countries. In particular, her work explores the role tax policy plays in creating equitable societies, how tax evasion can be reduced in developing countries to aid in this effort, and the overall importance of redistribution in creating financial equity.
Velayudhan earned her international baccalaureate at the Mahindra United World College of India, bachelor's in economics and mathematics at Wellesley College, and Ph.D. in economics at the University of Michigan, during which time she worked for several months as a consultant in the Chief Economic Adviser’s Office within the Ministry of Finance in India. She spent one year as a postdoctoral scholar at The Ohio State University before joining UCI’s Department of Economics in the fall. She’s excited about working with the university’s diverse student population and being part of a supportive department.
