A nupp is a decorative stitch used in Estonian lace knitting. While it is sometimes confused with a bobble, the two are different in both execution and result. A nupp is worked over two rows, by setting up the decoration on the knit (stockinette) right side and completing it on the purl (reverse stockinette) wrong side. Nupps largely lay flat in the knitting after being completed. In contrast, each bobble in turn is begun and completed on the right side of one row or round of knitting, and they protrude from the fabric. This video shows how to execute a five and a seven stitch nupp!
