Technics SA-R477 from 1989. This is the newer version/evolution of the SA-R430 from 1988.
Has an SLV chip, so you have to be careful. Which means don’t cross the speaker wires, and don’t clip the audio.
A very nice receiver with big VFD display, built-in equalizer and spectrum analyzer. Perfect for those who didnt know they have some ADHD, like me! I’m missing the remote but can imagine it probably had a bunch of functions.
100 watts per channel. It does switch audio and composite video. Also has a low powered surround sound. The FM tuner has all sorts of presets where you can group things by rock, classical, jazz, etc. Because we all listened to so much classical and opera music with our long hair in the 80s!! In all seriousness, these little bells and whistles were great innovations, only some of them continued.
I should’ve taken a video, but this has been pieced together. Arrived cracked and broken and I decided to rehab and get this working in the best condition I could.
Really sounds great as all of the Tecnnics line does from this era. Their engineering and style is so different but there’s something about it I like.
