IndyCar took its first steps in testing the prototype of its aeroscreen driver protection device at Phoenix in February of 2018 before it was finished and made mandatory in 2020.

In 2026, the series returns to race for the first time at Phoenix since 2018, which brings the aeroscreen back to where it first iteration made its debut with Scott Dixon and Chip Ganassi Racing during Spring Training.
