While surfing the internet I came across a web page of Lyn Toll featuring some poems she has written. One of poems ("Tears") triggered a melody in my head eventually leading to this piece. One can actually sing the poem to the music but this recording doesn't feature any singing.
The music features some Irish Folk influences. The poem was used with permission of the author.
The performance is far from flawless, for which I apologize. Cameras really make me nervous ;)
The music is released under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 2.0 license.

Some technical data:
The piano is a yamaha GT-2 digital grand piano.
The piano was recorded on a BOSS BR600 multitrack recorder.
The video was shot using an old Logitech QuickCam USB webcam (bad quality!).
Sound and video were mixed using kdenlive 0.7.2.1 on debian linux.
No microsoft products were used in the production of this video.

Some weeks ago, a 13 year-old took her own life after being bullied and physically assaulted inside and outside of school and harassed online. Literally everyone she reached out to for help (school, police and social media moderators) did literally nothing to help, in some cases brushing it off as not worthy of their time, culminating into tragedy. For some reason this news story hit hard and the way I feel most comfortable to deal with such news is to express it in sound.
In this experimental piece, I use a form of minimalism, repeating the same 24 note wide dissonant chord spread over the virtual piano keyboard over and over, only varying individual note volumes and timings, bringing out some patterns hiding in the mess. Many attempts to say the same thing in a different way, ending in emptiness.")
