This is an animation I worked on for my school's robotics team. I made an animation a couple years back for the same competition entitled, "Hydroelectric Power from Grey Water". I posted it as a video response.
The prompt of the contest was to create a 30 second animation with 3ds max about a problem in our community and how we would solve it. We chose a relevant topic, Ibelieve. I created a "robo-fly" which could fly in places humans could not go. From there the robo-fly could search for life. The example we choose was a earthquake scenario after hearing about the devastation in Haiti.
With only a strict 30 seconds to work with, it was hard to clearly get our point across. But overall, I felt like it turned out great. Wish us luck at regionals!
