During this webinar participants will learn about educational services (providing instruction) to school-aged children and youth in Canada and the United States. Information will be provided about adaptations and implementations of instructional methods in the areas of Core and Expanded Core Curriculum. Participants will also be given information about specialized assessments for this population including Functional Vision Assessments and Learning Media Assessment. In addition, Dr. Holbrook will discuss various options for service delivery along with the benefits and challenges of each.
Dr. Cay Holbrook is a professor of Special Education-Visual Impairment at The University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. She provided instructional services to students with visual impairments for several years and then obtained her doctoral degree from Florida State University. She has held faculty positions at Johns Hopkins University, The University of Arkansas at Little Rock prior to her tenure at UBC. Dr. Holbrook’s research focus is literacy including reading and writing in braille. Dr. Holbrook is the recent recipient of the President’s Award from Braille Literacy Canada and the Wings of Freedom Award from The American Printing House for the Blind.
