Homemade Science with Bruce Yeany | Teaching metric measurements suggestion --- length. // Homemade Science with Bruce Yeany @YeanyScience | Uploaded 4 years ago | Updated 3 minutes ago
Actively learning physical science requires that students be able to collect data for analysis, being able to measure correctly is an important step in that process. Since the international system of measurements (metric system) is almost universally the language of scientific measurements, it is necessary to promote it's use as early as possible. I find that many of my middle school students have no prior experience in using the metric system or understand the ease of using it's prefixes based on powers of ten. Once introduced, the system seems very intuitive to students and most will find it easier to use than the English or Imperial system with a little practice.
