Computers may do data work numerically, but that doesn't mean that's always the best way for people to learn it. Join Barton Poulson, PhD, as he discusses his 30 years of experience teaching the fundamentals of data work in university classrooms, in online video courses, and in written textbooks. One of the most important lessons learned in this time is the importance of teaching data skills in multiple ways so students can learn from several perspectives. In this office hour, Barton Poulson will share a selection from his current project, a video course entitled "Data for Doing," where his goals is to teach every concept in his introductory statistic class 3 times: (1) visually, using graphics; (2) verbally, using written steps that don't rely on formulas; and (3) symbolically, using formulas and mathematical symbols. When this project is complete, the videos will be released as free, open educational resources (OER) under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license, with a ready-to-import Canvas LMS shell.
