Prenatal education is designed to teach parents about the physiologic and psychological changes of pregnancy, what to expect during prenatal care, and how to prepare for labour and birth. Today, only one third of expectant parents attend prenatal education classes. An emerging body of evidence supports the use of text messaging for health education and behaviour change. We have developed Canada’s first prenatal education program delivered by text messaging and demonstrated improvements in maternal and infant outcomes.
