What do you get when you combine mini marshmallows, chili powder, and oat milk with a tasty coffee? It's a VERY tasty affogato! At least, I think so.
Earlier this year I competed in Season 1 of The Barista League Online - a global digital coffee competition. They're about to debut Season 2, so to celebrate their next season I decided to revisit my Season 1 footage, edit the best bits together, and upload it here for your viewing pleasure (and to get y'all hyped for TBLO Season 2)!
This video is from Round 2 (of 3). The challenge was to make a delicious signature beverage from various mystery ingredients we received in a box. It's like Master Chef... but for at-home coffee competitions with less technical savvy. We had to use a specific coffee and the Pacific oat drink (Pacific sponsored the competition), at least one of the mystery ingredients, and then whatever else we wanted! I tasted all the ingredients with the coffee and oat milk to figure out what would work best together, and then tried 2 different made-up recipes. I landed on a VERY good sweet/spicy, hot/cold, liquid/solid affogato - coffee poured over homemade ice cream. It's supposed to be an exercise in contradictions, a recognition of all the competing things we're living through, and yet there's still the opportunity to have a good time and make tasty drinks.
