Rapper Tay-K, has been sentenced to 80 years in prison for the 2017 murder of photographer Mark Anthony Saldivar in San Antonio, Texas. The killing took place while Tay-K was on the run, having cut off his ankle monitor during house arrest for a separate crime. He had arranged a photoshoot with Saldivar but attempted to rob him of his camera equipment. Saldivar was shot and killed during the encounter. Tay-K was found guilty of murder but acquitted of capital murder, which would have resulted in life without parole.
This sentence adds to Tay-K's existing 55-year prison term for a 2016 home invasion and murder in Mansfield, Texas. Both sentences will run concurrently, and he will receive credit for time already served.
Tay-K rose to fame in 2017 with his viral hit “The Race,” released while he was a fugitive, which became symbolic of his controversial rise and legal downfall.
