dwangoAC, keeper of TASBot | TASBot plays SMM2 on a real Switch! Super Mario Maker 2 bonus TAS for hitting $2.3m at AGDQ 2020 @dwangoAC | Uploaded January 2020 | Updated October 2024, 32 minutes ago.
Groundbreaking truly totally legit Switch speedrun: TASBot plays SMM2 level JQ2-142-WPG on an unmodified Nintendo Switch thanks to KNfLrPn. Ars Technica coverage: arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/01/inside-tasbots-semi-secret-probably-legal-effort-to-control-the-nintendo-switch
Actual TAS replay starts at 5:59
The Ars Technica article above details some of the technical aspects of what was demonstrated but the TL;DR is that we used an unmodified Nintendo Switch dock, console, and SMM2 cartridge and successfully played back a predefined sequence of button presses created by KNfLrPn. This achievement represents the first successful publicly displayed TAS and console verification of a modern console and of the Nintendo Switch itself. This was done on site by Melos with human demonstration assistance from PangaeaPanga and commentary from Jaku and dwangoAC.
Sappy paragraph by dwangoAC: This TASBot bonus run was set as a super secret bonus on the AGDQ 2020 schedule and was a new kind of incentive for AGDQ - donations had to reach $2.3m total by the end of the SMM2 block. In the minutes after the SMM2 section ended but before the interview section started, donations from viewers flooded in and the intense emotion in the stream room was hard to describe. It was an incredible feeling being there and I'm thankful we had something new and interesting to show. I feel like there's so much more to come on this front.
