GOAL: This is not a speedrun. The main goal is to have fun with the game. Tell me in the comments if you think I achieved my goal.
Im not an expert on this game, Im sure there are tricks I havent done. Tell me what did I miss.
-I know there is a hidden character to fight (Reptile) but Im not completely sure of the exact requirement to get it.
-The fastest way to fill the gauge in the Test Your Might rounds is to alternately tap LP and LK at a speed of 30 tps.

Tool-assisted superplay (TAS) of Mario Bros Arcade (2 players) (36 phases)
Goal of the TAS:
-Have fun with two players
Notes:
-Phase 36 is the same as phase 29. The game loops phases 29 to 35 indefinitely.
-I did not plan in advance what I would do in the TAS. I improvised almost every phases.
-Sometime the collision between Mario/Luigi and a moving coin is not detected correctly. (6:15)

![[TAS] Time Pilot Arcade (2 of 5) 247300 in 5 minutes
Tool-assisted superplay (TAS) of Time Pilot Arcade (2 of 5) 247300 in 5 minutes
The goal is to find out what is the best way to get the best score in 5 minutes.
This is known as Caravan mode in Arcade Archives TIME PILOT on PS4 and Switch
The stopwatch starts as soon as the player can shoot.
I tested 5 different strategies:
1- Stay on wave 1 while getting as many paratroopers as possible (5000 points), shooting formations but not shooting 56 planes so as not to see the boss
2- Stay on wave 1 shooting as many planes as possible. (optimized for combo)
3- Stay on wave 2 capturing as many paratroopers as possible (5000 points) and shooting mid size Bombers for 1500 points each
4- Shoot anything as fast as possible
5- Stay on wave 3 shooting as many helicopters as possible, taking advantage of the missiles to score many combos (optimized for combo)
Notes:
-All bosses give you 1200 points for killing him by shooting or hitting him. This is given when he explodes, then you get another 3000 points.
-Scoring combo:
-When you shoot something (planes, bomb, missiles, boss) you get 100 points.
-But if you shoot a second thing before 1/2 second elapses you will get 200 points
-And so on, the score increases with each hits as long as the new hit is within 1/2 second from the previous one: 300,400,500,600,700,800
-The maximum points is 800, the next hit (9th) (always within 1/2 second), points will reset to 100
-If you shoot 8 planes in 4 seconds, you will get 3600 points not 800
-When you shoot a mid size bomber on wave 2 (1500 points) it take 4 shots, if each shots are within 1/2 second of the previous one, you will get 100+200+300+400 = 1000 points + 1500 points
-All bosses take 8 shots to kill, so you get 3600 points for the 8 hits, plus 1200 points for killing a boss, plus 3000 points more for a total of 7800 possible points for each boss.
-In video 2 and 5 I do not shoot as fast as possible, I wait for some enemies to appear before shooting them quickly to maximize the scoring
-In video 4, I did not optimize it. The TAS should be able to score higher if it did not shoot as fast as possible. I should do another TAS to test that.
-I should try a TAS that stays on wave 4 and shoot as many planes as possible, I think they spawn faster than the helicopters, if so maybe I could get a higher score .
Conclusion:
-Getting only the paratroopers in wave 1 is much slower than expected. I did not predict that the score would be so low.
-Only shooting planes in wave 1 is not fast enough, the planes are too slow to spawn.
-Shooting helicopters in wave 3 seem like a good strategy. Their patterns are relatively easy to predict and learn, unlike the fighters in wave 4 and the saucers in wave 5.

![[TAS] Hyper Sports arcade (351 390 in 1 round)
Tool-assisted superplay (TAS) of Hyper Sports (Arcade).
This NOT a speed-run, the goal is to reach the highest possible score in 1 round.
Two changes were made to improve my score:
-I Started a two players game to have the bonus of 3000 points in swimming
-Faster running/swimming pattern of button pressed
To achieve a faster pattern for running/swimming, I had to modify Mame.
Mame scan the buttons once per frame, but this game read the buttons 2 times per frame, so, I hardcoded the pattern in the Mame source, triggered by a not used button.
It was easier than to try to edit the TAS at 120 fps since Mame is not made for that.
The best pattern I could find is around 46 button press by seconds instead of 38 for the old TAS.
Because of this new pattern, I improved the following:
-Swimming, time went from 39:75 to 37:51
-In Long Horse, I did 21 spin instead of 17 for a score of 10.00
-In Weight Lifting, I could lift 350 instead of 340 kg
Also, because of the 2 players game, the timing in Skeet Shooting was different, and I got the 500 points by getting the first two skeets with one shot in the second round.
Old notes
-In order to have the plane bonus in the Triple Jump and the mole bonus in the Pole Vault, I had to edit the high scores so that I cant beat them. It seem that the game does not give those bonuses if you beat a World record.
Button 1 and 3 = Run
Button 2 = Action
Swimming
-I use the no breath trick:
-Start by pressing 1 and 3 simultaneously. (exactly on the same frame)
-While pressing 1 and 3, tap button 2 3 times
-You have to hold 1 and 3 until your character surface, that is at least 78 frames.
-If you release 1 or 3 at any time before that, the trick will not work
-You cannot tap button 2 on the first frame, but you can tap anywhere in the 77 frames window.
Skeet Shooting
-When you have not missed any target, a bird?? appear, you have to shoot it on the opposite side that it appears, you get a bonus for that.
-Then a second bird (from Tutankham) appears, you can shoot it many times. but you must stop shooting when it is not under a target, if you shoot too much, the game will not allow you to shoot for a while. Your target will turn black.
You get 1000 points each time you shoot it.
The maximum I achieve in this TAS is 13 times.
Long Horse
-It is possible to have a 3000 points bonus but it is not as much points as doing a good try.
-To have this bonus, when you are supposed to spin, just do a half spin to land on the head, you will get a 5.40 note.
Archery
-The easiest sport for the TAS because its exactly the same pattern again and again.
Triple Jump
-To have the 3000 points bonus plane, you have to get the angles 35, 41 and 45 in that order (which are the best values) and also hit the board and not have a world record.
-I found that the running speed has not as big an impact on the length of the jump than I expected. My final speed is 1516 but I jumped nearly as far with a speed under 1400.
-I fiddled with the first steps of the run to start a bit slow so that the character foot land on the last pixel of the white line.
-Tapping while selecting the angle help a little but just a few pixels
-While in the air on last jump, I did not find a pattern of button press that help. On the contrary every time I pressed a button it slow the jump down.
-So, for the final result I tap during all the jumps but no tap at all after selecting 45 degree for the last jump.
Weight Lifting
-You get a 1000 points bonus to press the buttons 1 and 3 at the same time the weight touch the floor. You have a 9 frames window to get this bonus
Pole Vault
-Its a shame that the character is not aware of where is the bar, if he would not put his foot at the wrong place, I would have gone higher than 6m00.
-Consecutive Mole bonus has by far the most impact on the score:
1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, 8000, 8000...
But the game wont give you the bonus if you beat a world record.
So, to have this bonus I had to set the world records at values that I could not beat.
-You have a one frame window to place the pole at the right position to not lose speed.
-Then, you have a window of 6 frames to release the pole.
-By tapping 1 and 3 after releasing the pole you can get very high.
-Any button press before releasing the pole have no effect.

Tool-assisted superplay (TAS) of Aztarac arcade 6 waves (157,340) (1/3)
Goal of this TAS:
-Reach wave 7 so you can have the surprise I had in 83s when I reached this wave.
Settings:
Average Play Time: 2 Minutes see notes
Difficulty Level Tracking: Automatic
Free Game In Sagittarius: Yes
Notes:
-Because of the Average Play Time set at 2 minutes, the game only let you play 7 waves instead of the 12 available. (look for my video 3/3 to see the 12 waves coming soon )
Update: It seems that when you are able to keep all 4 bases at the end of a wave, you are rewarded by skipping a level. Average play time seems to have nothing to do with it.
-This video show (at last :)) the proper use of the radar. This is missing from many videos on YouTube.
-The video stop abruptly because Mame crashed at the end. (probably too much vectors at the same time)
-On my next video I will show you the last wave.
Waves shown in this video (as listed in the Owner Manual)
1-Capricorn (4 formations)
3-Pisces (5 formations)
5-Taurus (6 formations)
7-Cancer (6 formations)
9-Virgo (8 formations)

Tool-assisted speed-run (TAS) of Asteroids (Arcade).
See the re-upload with thicker vectors: https://youtu.be/HXeL_N27CMI
Goal of this TAS:
-Reach the maximum of displayable points (99,999) as quickly as possible
Notes:
-It may be possible to be a bit faster if I move the ship near the asteroids, less wait for the bullets to reach something. I will have to try that. (maybe with Asteroids Deluxe)
-You can have 4 bullets active on the screen at the same time
-The TAS tries to always have all these bullets active
-All bullets reach something. No lost bullets (Except for one volley to demonstrate the range of the bullets).

![[TAS] Head On Arcade 101,980 pts
Tool-assisted superplay (TAS) of Head On Arcade 101,980 pts
-Goal: Reach 100,000 points
-The only control you have in this game is a 4-way joystick to change lanes where there are gaps in the lanes.
-And you have a button to go fast.
-You can cross 2 lanes when you go slow but only one when you go fast.
-The goal of the game is to eat all the dots while avoiding enemy cars.
-In this text, I give a number to the lanes starting with the outside one, from 1 to 5.
-There are 4 places where cars can change lanes: top , left, right and bottom
-A segment is a quarter loop, there are 4 X 5 = 20 segments
-There are 11+9+7+5+3 = 35 X 4 = 140 dots to eat to finish a level.
-The big red dots are randomly generated by an enemy car. They only exist for a limited time (1:37). They give 5 times the score of normal dots.
-At the end of each level, you get a bonus that consists of 20 times a value that depends on the level you are in
-Enemy cars start off slow.
-When the player has completed about 6 segments, they get a bit faster.
-Towards the end of a level, depending on the level (see below), they go as fast as you with the turbo.
-The game consist of 8 waves that loop infinitely
1- 1 car, speed up when 1 segment remain, 5 pts per dots, 25 per red dots, 15 pts bonus = 300
2- 1 car, speed up when 5 segment remain, 5 pts per dots, 25 per red dots, 20 pts bonus = 400
3- 2 cars, speed up when 1 segments remain, 10 pts per dots, 50 per red dots, 30 pts bonus = 600
4- 2 cars, speed up when 5 segments remain, 10 pts per dots, 50 per red dots, 40 pts bonus = 800
5- 3 cars, speed up when 1 segment remain, 15 pts per dots, 75 per red dots, 50 pts bonus = 1000
6- 3 cars, speed up when 5 segments remain, 15 pts per dots, 75 per red dots, 60 pts bonus = 1200
7- 3 cars, speed up when 9 segments remain, 20 pts per dots, 100 per red dots, 70 pts bonus = 1400
8- 3 cars, speed up when 9 segments remain, 20 pts per dots, 100 per red dots, 70 pts bonus = 1400
-Sometimes enemy cars seem unable to change lanes under certain conditions
-After experimenting, it seems to be a feature that is different for each level.
-In level 1, it seems that if you are on lane 2 and the enemy car is on lane 1, the enemy car cannot change from lane 1 to lane 2 in the bottom gap.
-This does not work if you are on any other lane or for the other gaps.
-There also seems to be something with lane 5.
-In level 1, enemy car on lane 5, player on lane 4, enemy car seem to not be able to change lanes from 5 to 4 on the upper gap (0:21) and after experimenting, the left gap does not seem to work for the enemy car either.
-In level 3, it seems that the bottom gap are not usable by an enemy car if it is on lane 2 and the player is on lane 3 (1:40)
-Here are some other examples I saw in my video: 1:33 top gap, 20:44 right gap.
-This should be investigated further to be able to use it in real games
-Very rarely will an enemy car cross 2 lanes (1:53) because shortly after starting, they are going too fast to do that.
-Small bugs:
-The first red dot eaten seems to only give the points of a normal dot.
-At 4:07 the red car at the bottom ate a dot☹️ (at 21:55 too)
-At 10:25 a new dot appears from a red car. (Is it the one that was stolen earlier 😀)
-It is possible to pass through an enemy car without the game detecting a collision (2:06, 3:58, 4:07...)
-I think we have the same collision detection technique here as in Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man, namely that collisions are detected on pixel blocks. So if you move out of your square to go to an enemy cars square and he moves out of his square and into yours at the same time, you never occupied the same square.
For a full technical explanation, you can read this: https://www.gamedeveloper.com/design/passing-through-ghosts-in-pac-man
-So I wouldnt try to do this in a real game because the trick is frame perfect.
-This is a really hard game. When creating this TAS, I had a hard time finishing some levels when all 3 cars are at full speed.
-As far as I know, the behavior of enemy cars is not random. If thats the case, it should be possible to develop patterns like in Pac-Man.
-Ideally, a pattern that groups at least 2 cars out of the 3 would be ideal. Like at 10:10 where the TAS groups all 3 cars, it was not planned but a stroke of luck that I exploited at the end of the level. I could not reproduce this as well as this time for other levels. I should work on that.
-The strategy of this TAS is often to lure enemy cars to change (or keep) a certain lane. Often, this involves pretending to change lanes or to keep a lane longer by slowing down before a gap.
-Note that since the TAS do frame perfect moves, it would be very difficult to try to duplicate what you see here in a real game.
