This video showcases a new and faster route for bypassing the 8-star door in Super Mario 64, without the use of the Backwards Long Jump glitch. Until now, the only suitable method for gaining enough speed to bypass doors was to use a glitch known as Hyperspeed Wallkicks (HSWKs). This technique works because Mario's speed is unbounded while airborne, and by always wallkicking on the first frame possible (which conserves Mario's speed), Mario can remain in the air indefinitely, allowing his speed to gradually build until he has enough to bypass the door.
This new technique... Well, you'll just have to wait & see! :) I'll update this part of the description after the video is done. (If I don't forget :P)
With this new discovery (and other potential ideas) potentially leading to significant changes to the run, it is definitely very likely that a new Any% BLJLess TAS will get completed sometime in the near future. I'll be sure to keep you updated about that when any new information is available :)

Thought Id take the SM74 ABC thing back to the start for this video, doing the very first thing youd have to do in an ABC TAS - enter the first course!
Heres what I do:
• Head to the stairs leading to the DF painting.
• Climb the first step with a dive-recover.
• Climb the second step with another dive-recover, by diving into
the corner. With the correct angle, this allows Mario to keep
running, and dive without bonking his head.
• Dive-recover onto the third step, and store a vertical speed of 6.
• Punch across to the edge, and reactivate the vertical speed, to
allow me to grab onto the next ledge. (Using VSC may not actually
be necessary, as the floor above is only 154 units above the step -
just within the range of a dive-recover).
• I then dive-recover into the painting. Note that this is only
possible because the painting has a glitchy hitbox that extends
lower than it should. I got the idea from Homerfunkys 151-star
TAS, in which he uses it to save time.
Dont understand vertical speed conservation? Heres a brief description:
Vertical speed is a number the game keeps track of. It is the distance vertically the game should move Mario every frame, but its only used while hes airborne. When hes on the ground (including on slopes), Marios movement is calculated differently, so vertical speed becomes redundant.
Because of this, and to prevent glitches should Mario become airborne again, this value is normally set to zero as soon as Mario lands, but in a few situations, including (as used in this video) Mario landing from a dive-recover, the developers forgot to reset it, so the value is conserved. However, it resets as soon as you start walking, so instead I have to punch my way to the edge.
When I reach the edge and become airborne, the game immediately puts Mario into a falling state with the conserved vertical speed. The falling state allows Mario to grab onto a platform above him, allowing me to get to the next step.

In this video, two stars in SM64: Ztar Attack Rebooted (an amazing Super Mario 64 hack by aglab2) are completed as fast as possible.
I was looking for something to TAS while my Desert Mario 64 TAS was playing, and I chose these stars because they are part of the first level in the route of a full-game, 170-star TAS, and as such for such a TAS to be made, are a priority. Fortunately the stars were pretty cool as well in their own right :-)
Something I hope can be achieved with this strat is ruling out a much more complex strat involving cloning & then cancelling a star before collecting another. The setup for performing that in this stage (taking a penguin to the loading-zone at the exit of the cave) is pretty slow, so its likely that it will not save enough time. This should make things a lot easier for the 170-star TAS, as such a cloning setup would be insanely RNG-dependent and be very difficult to optimise. It would look pretty cool if done though :P

Long time no upload! Apologies for that - Ive got a few projects (SM64 & otherwise) in the works at the moment, but havent had the time & energy to work on them for a while. Theyll be coming soon - sort of.
For now, I have another Releasio TAS! This time, I complete Cavern Of The Metal Cap & activate the switch, in a WR benchmark time!
Heres what I do:
• Upon entering the level, I punch, gaining -4000spd & rapidly moving to the sign.
• I then quick-turn & perform a backflip, which takes me to the small area with the two red coins.
• Once there, I jump repeatedly to let my speed drop until I can start moving again, and collect the red coin.
• I then turn around & use this speed to reach the other red coin, before letting my speed drop to zero
• I then backflip again, which takes me behind the island with the switch. I then start moving forwards, so that I land very close to one of the red-coins
• I then collect the coin & jump, grabbing the switch. I then pull myself up ASAP & deal with the text. This may be skippable, but its not easy to route.
• I then start running forwards & grab the other coin along the way, before running off the edge & bumping into the wall. This moves me back towards the next red coin.
• I then turn around & collect the coins under the water.
• Finally, I collect the star. I quickly jump after collecting the last red coin, which takes me right to where the star spawns, saving a few frames.

In this video, I complete SM64 Ztar Attack 2: A Blast To The Past (A ROMHack created by TheGael95) in the shortest time possible, using any glitches available. This is done by skipping straight to the final boss battle using hyperspeed wallkicks to clip through the door to that stage & into the warp behind it.
I tried pretty hard to make sure as much of this run as possible was as optimised as possible, and tested as many movesets as possible in each area. Some parts are probably improvable though, especially the flying, which probably isnt quite so optimised, as I dont fully understand flight optimisation.
As the TAS is too long to fully describe/explain, instead, here is a section-by-section description, along with some interesting details in each part:
• First, I navigate to the warp to the Ztar Seal Temple. This is just a straight-line, but time can be saved by using the correct moveset, and landing on the last possible quarter-step in a frame wherever possible (otherwise Mario will not move for the remaining quarter-steps, losing distance). Speedkicking twice at the end is faster than slidekicking, as although slidekicking loses less speed, it loses it immediately rather than at the end of the movement, so speedkicking allows you to use the speed you have for longer. This saved a single frame.
• Next, I navigate to the pipe to the underground area. Turning around after navigating behind the staircase proved tricky to optimise, and it turns out the fastest movement is just to walk around & turn as tightly as possible. I tried wallkicking off the walls & speedkicking after turning, but I guess sometimes the simpler strats are the best. Note that I didnt pipe-clip as it would not save a frame here. Diving 1f earlier means my angle is too far off to reach the pipe at all.
• Next, I navigate to a small wall where I will wallkick to build up speed. This part was very tricky to optimise, both with the pipe in the way at the start and the awkward turning to get into the HSWK gap at the end. At the start, I abuse the pipe collision to almost clip through it both in & out, allowing me to reach the edge in 1f instead of several, and dive twice to gain speed, using the pipe to return to the freefall state. This part may be improvable with a different moveset, idk.
• Next, I wallkick repeatedly, abusing Marios unbounded forward acceleration to gain speed.
• After the HSWK, I break out, and clip through the door. This was reeeeally hard to optimise, as I had to use the minimum possible speed, making the clip very precise. In the end, I clipped through the door within a ~0.1 unit (spacing-dependent) window, and given that Marios acceleration is 0.15 units per frame (meaning the window would be -0.05 units if done 1f sooner, though perhaps possible with a better angle), Im not convinced that I could save another frame here, and because attempting it would require redoing much of the HSWK, Im not going to try.
• Next, I collect the wingcap & go to the spring. Imo this part looks rough, but it seems to be the optimal movement. I saved a frame here by gradually shifting Marios angle so he strains gradually more over time, allowing him to get closer to the wing-cap box while still having enough speed to reach it a frame earlier.
• Next, use the spring to start flying. By holding A for 2 frames, I could delay Marios landing by 2 quarter-frames, giving him a perfect qf landing. This may or may not save a frame.
• After that, I kill all the Ztars (basically remodelled boos), by flying through them. By not landing, I can avoid their text, saving many seconds. This part is extremely tough to optimise & definitely improvable, but it looks pretty clean.
• After that, I fly down to collect the time-star. The arc path I took down saved a frame over flying in a roughly straight downward line, which is pretty interesting.
• Finally, in the ending, I navigate back to the Ztar Seal Temple, which resets the game. I end timing on the frame Mario disappears (because TASVideos timing is flawed). This part has different movement to the start, as you can dive immediately, and the sign is no longer there.
This video is encoded in an unusual way. I wanted to try encoding in widescreen, but the only plugin that lets me do that is Jabo 1.6, which doesnt look as good, so I decided to also encode the central section using the Rice video plugin to get the best quality, and combine the two. Theres a noticeable seam, but imo it looks better than encoding normally.

I thought this star would be simple and uninteresting, with no tricks to save time...
I was wrong!
Detailed description of what I did:
• I entered the pipe. I did this using a downward VSC of 75 because
I felt like it...
• I completed most of the minigame. All I had to do was avoid
touching lava, and stay on the platforms, but to make it bearable
to watch, I tried to do as many little tricks as possible. I ran out of
ideas about halfway through though...
• At the very end, I use a ground-pound to clip through the floor, and
hit the lava, making the star appear.
• Next, I do a lava bounce, briefly landing on the platform. Doing
this saves me waiting through the full arc of the lava bounce,
saving time. (about 20 frames)
• I almost immediately fall back into the lava again, killing Mario,
and triggering the death sequence. I then collect the star before
Marios warped out of the room. The star still counts! This is
known as the Death Star Glitch (DSG for short), and saves
considerable amounts of time, as you dont have to wait for the
star animation cutscene, and once warped back to the main
room, the death cutscene is quicker than the star cutscene!
Timing is from the first off-black frame in the minigame to the first frame of movement outside the minigame, to take into account the timing effect of the DSG

BLJLess WR benchmark.
Came up with the strats for this run a few days ago, and decided to put them together in a run. Its almost certainly improvable, but probably not by too much, and I think the overall strats are probably optimal.
Beating the boss quickly requires the use of two precise ground-pounds, each exploiting a different trick:
1. The front segment of the boss overlaps with its head, so ground-pounding it very near the front can allow Mario to land back on the head, rather than falling to the ground. This is used in RTA speedruns, and isnt too difficult to perform.
2. Ground-pounding the seam between two segments causes both to fall at the same time, dealing two hits of damage at once. Doing this makes it almost impossible to stay on top of the boss though (I managed it by accident, but its very slow), hence I use it for the final blow. The boss only requires 3 hits anyway, so theres no point in trying to do this for the first hit. I dont know whether this trick is known, but its quite easy to do RTA - if a little risky. Miss the two hits and youll have to climb back up!
The rest of the TAS is pretty self-explanatory.

In this TAS, I collect the star Eye To Eye In The Secret Room in Big Boos Haunt, without collecting any coins, or using caps or cannons, in what is known as the CCCless Challenge. The main challenge of this particular level is the fact that theres a painting which youre supposed to use a vanish-cap to collect, but of course we cant do that!
Initially, this problem was solved by using Hyper-Speed Wall-Kicks (HSWK) to gain enough speed to clip through the painting, but this is very slow, and takes a long time to build up the required speed.
Since HSWK was discovered, and CCCLess was forgotten about in this level, the Parallel Universes glitch was discovered in SM64. In short, due to integer overflow in Marios position used for floor detection, there are a (near) infinite number of infinite duplicate versions of the course (without objects & stuff), which can be reached by gaining a large amount of speed. I wont explain the full technical details of navigating PUs here, but Ill link to a video that does. Needless to say, by moving from point-to-point across PUs, you can travel to any arbitrary point in the map laterally quite quickly.
However, because the painting is quite high, we need vertical motion as well, and conveniently, a side-effect of the PU glitch - the Overflow Jump (OJ) can help us. Basically, when Mario jumps, while moving at high-speed, he incurs a vertical displacement related to his speed. When hes moving backwards at QPU speed, he can reach speeds fast enough to fall into PUs *below* his current location. When this happens, he immediately snaps up onto the nearest floor relatively below him in the QPU grid, which can be anywhere, with correct planning.
The PU route used here was found by Timestoppa - I just executed it optimally.
Anyway, heres a detailed look at what happened in the TAS:
• First, I navigate to the elevator, and activate it as quick as possible. Since I made this, I found out that 2 frames can be saved between the start and reaching the door, by long-jumping once, then diving (shoutouts to Luigihaxd for spotting that).
• While the elevators falling, I kill the Mr I. I didnt need to do this, but I had time to kill, so I decided to kill with my time. He never stood a chance.
• Once the elevator hits the ground, I activate it again on the first frame possible, so it starts to rise. Once Im on it, I mess around a bit, and move to the correct position for the start of the PU movement.
• I then BLJ, gaining ~4,147,200 speed. To do this optimally, I needed to very precisely get the correct speed immediately (so I dont have to lose any, and waste frames). This was very a tedious process, but it allowed me to start the PU movement immediately.
• Once I have the required speed, I perform an OJ. This takes me to PU (-9, 9), and to the top of the balcony relatively.
• Next, I drop my speed, first by jumping, then punching. Unfortunately, due to the route, this takes a long time.
• I then perform two more PU movements, in quick succession, taking me first to PU (-1, 1), and relatively on the balcony, then back to the main map inside the secret room.
• I then kill the big Mr I. Unfortunately, the camera became stuck in the elevator room, so I had to TAS this bit blind. Fortunately, its possible to hack the camera during TASing, so I could - to some extent - see what I was doing. This was still very tedious, and probably not quite optimal.
• I then collect the star.
