This stage always seems to be the place where we demo new TAS tech. First it was dismount boosting that saved a significant amount of time, and now we get to showcase the developments made on ZIPs.

After much discussion over the past couple of days between mostly Brianpso, Laze, and myself, some fairly big developments were made into understanding this game's collision system a little better -which lead to ideas about how to make ZIPs less mysterious. Lo and behold, big things happened.

I can't do a full writeup on how ZIPs work in this video description, much is still being ironed out. But here we can demonstrate that Rouge can ZIP from a ground dismount in a 90 degree corner. There's no special object collision or condition here, this should be a reasonably universal tech. Much more testing is needed.

The ZIP is used to generate the speed here, but it is captured and conserved using an instant turnaround and moonwalk. Instant turnarounds convert almost all forward speed into backward speed, and are performed by maneuvering next to a wall and holding the stick down and towards the wall with the right facing angle and position. When you're moving backwards at a high speed, ground deceleration is GREATLY reduced, allowing us to conserve Rouge's extreme speed through a huge distance.

I also have to complain about the ending to this stage! The mystic melody warp is not a scripted event, but actually has variance depending on how it's entered. The gravity angle Rouge receives after using the warp is not consistent, and it lead to one of the most absurd edge-case strats I am aware of. In order to wallrun into the Chao, which saves several frames, a gravity angle of 5123 is needed, and we had a movie that just so happened to attain an angle 10 units below this threshold. 10 units out of 65,535. If you convert to degrees, our rotation was 0.0549 degrees away from working. Which is just so absurd I can't believe it. Luckily we were able to redo the sequence and get a working angle once I realized that was the factor causing us trouble.
