Lo Scarabeo has presented us with yet another tarot deck using the children's book illustrations of a late 19th century artist. This time it is Henry J. Ford known for illustrating the "color" fairy tale books of Andrew Lang i.e. The Blue Fairy Book, The Green Fairy Book, The Lilac Fairy Book, etc which were published in paperback by Dover Press. I am not certain if these are currently in print, but are worth collecting featuring fairy tales from many cultures around the world. In addition to Henry J. Ford, Lo Scarabeo has previously published tarot decks featuring Walter Crane (The Harmonious Tarot), The Edmund Dulac Tarot, and The John Bauer Tarot (this is the one whose name I couldn't remember here.
Be advised that these feature vintage illustrations not originally intended as tarot cards and of times and cultures practicing norms which current day viewers may find politically incorrect or culturally insenstivie. Rather than modifying history, I urge anyone offended to take context into account rather than wishing to rewrite history or imposing current standards on historical representations that may not fit with what is acceptable today.
