With no need for a door, I imagine these would be ornate but defensive. I like the idea of these much later TARDISs having default shells that look more like intricate chess pieces rather than a simple cylinder. The uniformity reflects the default nature of the shape and the intricacy demonstrates the advanced nature and the organic content.
