Tantalus's Ultimate Test: Serving His Son to the Gods!

Tantalus, wanting to test the gods' omniscience, plotted to serve them his son Pelops in a stew during a feast he hosted.
Despite being so intimate with the gods, Tantalus wanted to know if they really were omniscient, so he hatched a plot. He invited the gods to his home on Mount Sipylus for a feast, and made a stew out of his son, Pelops, to see if the gods really did know everything.
Demeter, grieving the abduction of her daughter Persephone, unknowingly ate Pelops' shoulder from the stew.
Immediately, the gods knew what Tantalus had done, all except Demeter, who had recently had her daughter, Persephone, abducted by Hades, and in her grief and being distracted as she was, she took a bite of the stew, eating Pelops' shoulder.
