Can an IEM brand successfully break into the open-back headphone market? In this audiophile review, I test the new Tangzu Ox Demon King (ODK) planar magnetic headphones. Priced at $349, these hi-fi headphones feature premium CNC aluminum construction, plush leather pads, and massive 85mm planar magnetic drivers (25 ohms impedance / 92dB sensitivity).
I put their natural tuning, balanced frequency response, punchy bass, and holographic soundstage to the test. To see if they are the real deal, I provide a direct sound quality and comfort comparison against top mid-fi tier competition: the Meze Audio 105 AER, Audio Technica ATH-R70x, and HiFiMan Edition XV. I also share my listening impressions using the stock 3.5mm/6.35mm cable versus the upgraded pure silver Hwen Tyeh Gwen cable.
