Tammany Hall was a powerful political organization in New York City during the 1800s and early 1900s. It began as a social club but grew into a group that helped immigrants—especially Irish newcomers—find jobs, housing, and support. However, Tammany Hall also became known for corruption. Some leaders, like “Boss” Tweed, used money and bribery to control elections and government decisions. Even though it helped many people, it also became a symbol of political dishonesty. This video explains how Tammany Hall worked, why it became so influential, and how the city eventually reformed its government.
