Weather can certainly affect farming in many different ways. In this example spring 2017 rice planting, in both California and Arkansas, were greatly delayed due to heavy rains in April.
Many Arkansas farmers saw severe flooding.
California rice farmers were unable to enter their fields until late April due to rains. The ground was could not dry out, preventing farmers to enter with their tractors to start working it up. This also creates a narrow planting window forcing farmers to require seed, water, pest management applications and eventually space at the dryer all at the same time.
Like every year, it's going to be an interesting one.
