He's a status inflicter that can inflict stone, but he telegraphs his attacks so it should be easy to avoid. It's not terrible difficult to hit all his weaknesses in a single combo if you disable certain attacks and make some adjustments in the strategy menu. Fortunately I was able to keep him staggered through the Eleth Break.
