Taking Freedom Home is a documentary released in 2010 by the Welfare Warriors Research Collaborative, a project of Queers for Economic Justice. In Spring 2009, the Welfare Warriors surveyed low income LGBTGNC people about their struggles with racism, homophobia, and transphobia and their strategies in fighting for economic justice and queer liberation. Taking Freedom Home is directed and edited by Kagendo Murungi and co-produced by Wapinduzi Productions and The Welfare Warriors Research Collaborative, Queers for Economic Justice. Featuring interviews with and comments by Sandie Green, Natalia Pabon, Chris Parker, Jonas Siregar, Trishala Deb, B.B., Kayla Stevens, Joseph A.J. Briggs, Jay Toole, Rachel Pugh, Kagendo Murungi, Dwayne Bibb, Michelle Billies, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, Tourmaline, and Angela Davis.

In June 2020, in collaboration with Tourmaline, BCRW is uploading Taking Freedom Home to maintain archival access to this film which is crucial to the movement for economic justice and queer liberation in NYC.
