Is it possible to beat Battle for Bikini Bottom without collecting a shiny object? Well, now it is. It does depend on how you define collecting a shiny object, though.

The trick used to avoid collecting the 50 shinies required to unlock the spatula in the pineapple is called combo storage. By exiting the game while a combo is being activated, the shiny objects from the combo will be given to the player while in the title screen. By starting a new game with autosave, these shinies are preserved into the beginning of the game, where they can be used to bypass the door blocking the first spatula.
It may be argued that I still collected 50 shiny objects, but this depends on the way you define the playthrough starting. For the purposes of the challenge run, Ill consider the playthrough to start when the save file for the new game is created, and Ill define collecting a shiny object as the shiny counter increasing after the playthrough starts (and not just being at a positive value). So from start to end, a shiny object is never collected. If you still want to consider this a 50 shiny object run, thats fine, but I consider it 0.
The other three improvements over the 175 shiny run include a strategy that allows SpongeBob to bypass the tiki wall at the end of the slide in Patricks Dilemma (saving 20), a clip into the bottom floor of the lighthouse (saving 100), and a more precise method of clipping through the laser wall in the lighthouse in which the Fodder doesnt destroy itself (saving 5).
There are 65 socks out of 81 that can be obtained without collecting shiny objects, which convert to 6 spatulas out of 8 from Patrick. The 5 remaining shinyless socks that I didnt get are:
1. The sock in SpongeBobs attic (which can be accessed by preserving more shinies from combo storage)
2. The sock in the second area of the museum
3. A duplicated sandman sock in the lodge
4. The sock in Squidwards Dream
5. The sock in Mr. Krabss Dream (which can be obtained shinyless with a cutscene skip)
As a step up from the 175 Shiny Object LOTAD I made over a year ago, I made this TAS almost exclusively with the TAS input device on Dolphin instead of using a controller. As a result, it should look much nicer and cleaner. That being said, this was still not made with the intent of perfect optimization, as there are still a few minor mistakes as well as some time-saving strategies I missed.
Note that this TAS uses the speed up disk transfer setting in Dolphin to make loads faster. This makes it invalid as a speedrun but much more entertaining to watch.
