The Chinese Crested Tern is a bird that was thought to be extinct. In 2000, Taiwanese photographer Liang Chieh-Te rediscovered its existence through a happy film development accident. Ever since, Liang has been searching for this rare species, visiting estuaries, mudflats and islets around the globe. While the population of Chinese Crested Tern sees a gradual increase, its migratory pattern and breeding habit remain a mystery. With only a small sample size accessible, Liang and an international group of scholars and birders work together to track down this fascinating yet endangered tern.
