I was invited to attend the Sinhalese New Year festival at Duggan Community Center by a friend today. I'm usually very interested when it comes to learning/experiencing other cultures so naturally, I had to go.
-Canadian National Anthem
-Sinhalese National Anthem
-Lighting of the Lamp
-Anointing with Oil
I couldn't get a video of the 'tribute to parents' section but basically children were given leaves which they held in both hands while kneeling in front of their parents. The parents then touched their heads and maybe said something... then they gave their kids presents. A kid sitting in front of me got a Dragon Ball GT dvd. Wasn't a big fan of GT....but how awesome is that? Wish I got cool stuff as a kid....
